Peters: 'Premature' to talk Peace Prize for President

Talk of Donald Trump getting a Nobel Peace prize for his role in getting the two Korean Presidents together is being scoffed at by our Foreign Minister.

The idea has been floated by the President himself, as well as the South Korean President, after the latter met with North Korea's Kim Jong Un for the first time last week.

However, Winston Peters says it's not the time to be talking about accolades.

"It's totally premature. The reality is we haven't seen the outcome yet, the idea that we give somebody a Nobel Peace Prize before we've seen any finality to what was a good start is a bit ridiculous really."

The Foreign Affairs Minister says others have had a hand in it as well.

"There's no doubt that his stance has had an influence, but he should know the rule [not] to understate what the Chinese have done as well."

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern similarly rebuffed the idea yesterday.

Nuclear-free campaigner Thomas Nash told Larry Williams yesterday that the Korean people deserve recognition over the US President.
