The Government's planning to crack down on high interest rates for payday loans.

It's among priorities for the coalition's first 100 days in office.

Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Kris Faafoi said current rates are crushing people.

"For some time, extremely high and exorbitant interest rates for short and long term loans have been crippling a lot of vulnerable families."

Mr Faafoi has instructed officials to look at how low the interest rate caps should be.

He said the Government wants to ensure vulnerable people aren't preyed on any more.

"Families have been doing it very tough and some have been crushed by credit." targeted
