Big egos and big money won't make you mayor of Auckland, according to a former candidate as a fresh contenders line up for next year's elections.

Labour MP Phil Goff is expected to become the officially become the latest candidate to run tomorrow.

Xero boss Victoria Crone and 2degrees founder Tex Edwards are also considering standing in what's likely to be a hotly contested race.

Former mayoral candidate Reverend Uesifili Unasa said SuperCity politics is out of touch, and needs to change.

"Super City politics that is becoming increasingly about big profiles, about lots of money, about big organisations."

Reverend Unasa said the new mayor will need to focus on people's lives and aspirations, and also need to reach out to different cultures.

"Our city requires someone concerned about the people, someone who can connect to the diverse city that is now Auckland."
