Football supporters club Yellow Fever is working hard to save the Wellington Phoenix - and it's managing to give back to the community while it's at it.

The supporters have started a Give A Little campaign to fundraise money to buy more Phoenix memberships and show Football Federation Australia the team's worth keeping.

The season memberships bought with the money raised will be handed out to people who volunteer their time to help charitable organisations.

Campaign organiser Matthew Weldon-Smith says they've raised nearly $9000 so far and he's thrilled with the response.

"We're increasing the Phoenix membership numbers but we're also giving volunteers that give their time and their effort a chance to go out and enjoy football. It's a win-win for both."
