It's been a rough week on our roads and waterways, and Work Safe and Federated Farmers are reminding families the farm can be dangerous too.
Federated Farmers spokesperson Katie Milne says summer's a golden opportunity for town kids to learn about farming, as long as they're well supervised.
"You see the milk coming out of the cow, have a little squirt of that fresh cream, fresh milk, natural - juts the rural way of New Zealand life."
Katie Milne says keeping kids in sight, and ensuring they don't wander off near ponds, machinery, and large animals is key.
"Tell mum or dad where they're going. [If they] want to go somewhere they ask ... and then you can make sure that there's an appropriately aged elder child with them."Â
