The Crown is being blamed for introducing pest species into the forests and lands of the Te Urewera people.
The final part of the Waitangi Tribunals' Te Urewera report has been released today.
It outlines multiple breaches of the Treaty, saying they've contributed to the shocking poverty of the people of the area.
Among those is a failure to protect forest flora and fauna, and particularly bird life, which has been ravaged by introduced species such as ferrets, stoats, possums and deer.
Earlier in December, the fifth part of the report to be released also detailed numerous breaches of the Treaty of Waitangi.
