UPDATED 5.22PM Police have released the names of the two trampers who died during an overnight walk in the Tararua Ranges at the weekend.

They were 39-year-old Mykhalo Stepura, also known as Michael, and 32-year-old Pavel Pazniak.

Mr Stepura is originally from the Ukraine but was living in Lower Hutt.

Mr Pazniak is originally from Belarus and lived in Auckland.

Their bodies were found in Tararua Forest Park on Monday, after they failed to return from an overnight trip.

They worked at Xero, and the company said staff are deeply saddened by the loss of their teammates.

It said they are a tight-knit team and it's a tough time.

Xero says its focus is on supporting the men's families, and its staff.
