The last remaining survivors of the 1931 Hawke's Bay Earthquake will gather today to remember New Zealand's deadliest shake.
The earthquake killed 256 people and devastated the entire region.
About a hundred survivors and their families will be served afternoon tea as they share memories of the quake.
Organiser, and Napier City Councillor Faye White said the event holds a special place in the calendar for those who lived through the devastation.
"They just love seeing old friends and it has become a real meeting ground for some of these people who probably don't see each other from year to year," White said.
She said the survivors are getting on in age: the youngest attendee is 86 years old and they expect to have a guest who is 101.
