Supermarket chain Foodstuffs is in hot water with a union, after workers complained at being forced to bear the cost of shoplifting.
It follows a string of reports from gas station workers, who've had the cost of stolen petrol deducted from their pay.
Now a Pak'nSave store in Whakatane is under fire, after staff were told they had to make good for a $700 theft during their shift.
First Union's Robert Reid says Foodstuffs has the power to stop this sort of thing happening to staff.
Mr Reid says staff from other stores have also come forward, and he's offering to help workers get their money back whether they're union members or not.
