Otago's six local councils are looking at amalgamating services in an attempt to improve efficiency.
As part of the Local Government Act reforms, all councils are required to periodically review the cost-effectiveness of public services.
Queenstown Lakes District Mayor and group spokesperson, Vanessa Van Uden, says they're looking at sharing some services amongst the six authorities.
She says, this will also help ensure they're taking an Otago-wide perspective.
Ms Van Uden is emphasising this is just the beginning of the process, and they're still only looking at what options may be possible.
