Opotiki could soon become the country's first drone friendly town.
New laws introduced at the start of the month mean it's illegal to fly drones on private property or reserves without the owner's permission and a safety plan.
The Opotiki District Council is considering blanket approval so people can still fly the drones in reserves without needing to apply for permission.
District council CEO Aileen Lawrie said the approval in reserves would save the hassle and encourage drone flyers.
She said drones are effectively flying cameras, so what better way to capture some of the scenery in the district.
"Its a beautiful district with amazing landscapes and these drones are effectively flying cameras so what better place than to use a drone in capturing some of the beautiful scenery around here."
