A former New Zealand cricketer with business interests in Wanaka says locals are welcoming the revelations around Matt Lauer.
The American TV host at NBC News has been sacked amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
Earlier this year he bought Hunter Valley Station, on the shores of Lake Hawea, near Wanaka.
The purchase was granted, partly based on his good character.
John Morrison owns Wild Wire Wanaka and his son Mark runs it.
He says Lauer has lost the community's support after first locking the gates to his property, and then reneging on a promised donation to a local charity.
"The locals have not got one nice word to say about this guy. While they're not thrilled when anyone does stuff like this, I think it will be music to their ears."
"They've discovered down here already that he's not a man of good character."
Two more women have come forward with allegations against Lauer, who owns a large tract of land near Wanaka.
In a statement read out by co-host Savannah Guthrie, NBC says there may be more allegations it isn't aware of.
"While it is the first complaint about his behaviour in the over 20 years he's been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident."
Matt Lauer was required to be "of good character" when he bought his South Island estate earlier this year.
The Overseas Investment Office says it's aware of the allegations and is investigating.
