The Government is set to pay the bills for next week's memorial services for former All Black Jonah Lomu.

The public will have two opportunities to pay their respect to Jonah Lomu, as announced by the Prime Minister yesterday.

An Auckland Council spokesperson has likened Saturday's event at the Vodafone Events Centre to a Tangi.

It's expected to be a very moving community event with songs, speeches and a reflective time to mourn.

The other will be held at Eden Park on Monday afternoon with the park's Trust Board donating the venue for the occasion.

It will be an approximately two hour memorial with an understandably more sport focused theme.

Saturday's event will begin at midday, with Monday's memorial at Eden Park kicking off at 1pm.

Prime Minister John Key is unsure exactly how much it will cost, but it's a combination of some catering at the Vodafone Events centre and other expenses like stages.

"But I'd put it in the order of hundreds of thousands - that's the likely advice. Probably not more than $300 thousand but probably more than $150 thousand..I'd put it in that category."
