An economic boost's being anticipated ahead of Qatar Airway's new Auckland to Doha route.
The airline will fly a Boeing 777 daily between the two destinations, beginning in December this year.
Auckland Airport's General Manager Norris Carter thinks the new route will be popular.
"This new service will bring about 189,000 seats which is worth $198 million dollars in tourism export routes to the country."
Mr Carter said tourism from Europe is growing faster than the capacity to serve it.
"Passengers are currently flying down through all sorts of routes through The Middle East, through Asia, through North America and adding this new Qatar flight opens up a whole lot of new one stop routes into Europe."
