Concerns are being raised about the state of courtrooms across the country.

The Maori Land Court in Christchurch's new Justice Precinct has been closed since yesterday after a sewage leak in the ceilings of the administration area of the new multi-million dollar building.

The leak saw faeces fall on a staff member when they were investigating the source of a urine leak.

Public Service Association national organiser Tracy Klenner says she's concerned new builds are being rushed through.

"We want to make sure that the new builds are done properly. There are other public service builds going on in the Christchurch space."

However, Klenner says new buildings are not the only issue.

"The law review had written an article a couple of weeks ago where they are concerned about the nature of all the other courthouses around the country. There are toilet blockage issues in Auckland a lot."

Klenner says asbestos is also an issue in many courthouses.
