Complaints upheld over misleading TV ads

Complaints over two commercials on New Zealand screens have been upheld.

An ad for Ssangyong's Korando has been ordered off New Zealand television due to its use of fog lights.

In the ad, which was filmed overseas, the vehicle is shown being driven over a variety of terrain during daylight hours.

It has its fog lamps on throughout.

Someone complained that it was illegal to use fog lights when driving in clear weather.

The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld that complaint, saying the ad features an unsafe practice that's illegal in this country.

A complaint about a Ryman Healthcare ad has also been upheld.

It stated that residents at its rest homes could enjoy guaranteed fixed weekly fees for life.

However someone complained that was misleading, because the fee changed when residents needed to change accommodation within the facility to receive assistance as the result of an illness.

The authority says the absence of the disclaimer made the statement misleading.
