A local renewable energy organisation has dismissed claims renewable energy projects will collapse as a result of declining oil prices.
Delegates at a renewable energy conference in Abu Dhabi, have been warned the slump in oil prices could spell doom for the industry.
But the Chairman of Sustainable Energy Association of New Zealand Brendan Winitana feels that's nonsense.
He says the uptake in renewable energy globally has increased exponentially.
"In New Zealand alone it's increased 300 percent in the last financial year, so to say that it'll spell the death of renewables we believe is absolute rubbish.
"People seem to forget in the oil industry that the costs of renewable generation, the cost of that technology, is dropping dramatically, so the generation will continue to remain as a renewable source in New Zealand and we don't see any change."
