Hundreds of Kiwis may be affected by a toxic chemical used throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s which has now been linked to the development of Parkinson's Disease.

A New Zealand navy veteran won a landmark payout after he proved links between trichloroethylene and his Parkinson's disease.

Another man, Steve Walker, said he and hundreds of others used the chemical for years, and have developed Parkinson's themselves.

He said he too is looking at putting in a claim for compensation - and he'd give the money to research of the disease.

"I'm not looking for anything myself if it goes that way...they forever need money for doing their research. Any funding is essential".

Mr Walker said he doesn't want any money from a successful claim for himself.

"Money can't buy your health back and I wouldn't be looking to have any money. Any money received as a judgment on that should go back to those who are trying to cure the disease".
