British actor Sir John Hurt dies

Acclaimed British stage and screen actor Sir John Hurt has died.

He was 77 and known for such films as Alien, The Elephant Man, and the Harry Potter series.

He recently appeared in the Kennedy biopic Jackie.

Hurt rose to fame in A Man For All Seasons in 1966.

In 1976 he was on TV in the series I, Claudius.

Andi n 1984 John Hurt was in the remake of the movie 1984, based on the George Orwell book.

He had been battling pancreatic cancer, but was given the all clear in October 2015.

He had once described himself as an old drunk.
