A teenager's body was found in a stormwater drain in Mangere this afternoon.

It is understood the girl lived locally and was with other children when she died in the vicinity of Enuamanu Rd.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Mangere at 4.40pm.

Police say the victim was a woman, and locals believe she was a local teenager.

People at a reunion in a nearby community hall rushed to help after one of the children raised the alarm.

They managed to retrieve the teenager from the drain but couldn't revive her.

Police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances, and say next of kin have been advised.
