UPDATED 8.09PM: Three missing climbers are expected to battle rain, wind and snow over the next 36 hours.

Search efforts to locate the Australian and two Germans have halted until weather conditions improve.

Senior Constable Brent Swanson says it's not just the weather which is raising concerns for their safety with crevasses also posing a threat.

"The snow bridges that cross the crevices this time of year can sometimes be weakened - that can be a bit of a concern for us," he says.

"The weather forecast is very poor for the next thirty six hours with high winds, rain, and some snow to fifteen-hundred metres later."

Constable Swanson says contact with the missing men's family is still an ongoing process.
