Police have been unable to find a woman who was violently shoved into a car by a man in Auckland.

The woman was forced into a silver Ford Falcon by a man in Newmarket, just after 7am on Tuesday.

Police responded to the incident at the time and were not able to locate the car or the woman.

They're now appealing for help from the public, using a picture of the car snapped by a witness.

The woman's described as a Māori or a Pacific Islander in her 20s or 30s, and around 165cm tall.

She's of a medium build with an athletic physique.
