A scrub fire that forced the evacuation of some residents in Kaiti in Gisborne has now been contained and residents are now being allowed back home.
Cordons were put in place and motorists were asked to avoid the Endcliffe Road area after the fire broke out around 2pm.
A helicopter assisted in controlling the the blaze.
