UPDATED 4.45pm: The names of two people missing off the Catlins have been released.

77-year-old Whetuki Kopua and 60-year-old Matekino Burling, both of Owaka, have been missing for over 24 hours.

The boat was found overturned just south of Nugget Point near where teams were searching and has been towed ashore.

Divers have been in the water searching the area around the boat, and will now be focusing their search on the wider area.

Seven boats, 10 land search teams, and a helicopter have been out looking for the pair from South Otago.

They left Owaka yesterday morning on a fishing trip, but failed to return.

The boat they were in is  a 5.2 metre pontoon style Kiwikraft boat.
