UPDATED 8.47am: And so, the clean-up begins.
Volunteers have started the massive task of cleaning up Dunedin's Hyde Street after the annual student party, held yesterday.
Eight people were arrested during the day-long event, mostly for trying to enter the event illegally with fake tickets or after closing time, and authorities were generally pleased with how it went.
Three people were taken to Dunedin Hospital and another 50-odd were treated for sunburn or minor injuries.
Otago University Students' Association president Laura Harris said the event was mostly good fun and “nice to be a part of”.
“People, on balance, were really well behaved,” said Harris.
“It was quite a friendly crowd this year.”
Emergency services, Maori Wardens, Otago University and several other agencies ensured the event ran smoothly, and Harris said they will all debrief in the coming days.
“All the stakeholders who were involved can have a say about how to move forward and what ways to improve it.
“But, the general feeling is that things went very well and they were very well handled.”
The party finished at 6pm.
