UPDATED 4.34pm: Police have now identified the woman who fell out of a moving car bound and gagged in South Auckland last night.

The woman appears to have jumped from the boot of a speeding silver sedan on Huia Rd in Papatoetoe at around seven o'clock last night.

She's been identified as a 50 year old Thai woman from Auckland, but police are not naming her yet.

The woman remains in a critical condition in Middlemore Hospital as police continue to investigate what happened to her.

Police are appealing to the public for information about the silver sedan she fell from and potential suspects.

Counties Manukau Detective Inspector Dave Lynch said initial inquiries suggest there is no reason for Papatoetoe residents to worry.

"There's no information that suggests anyone in the general public are at risk, and people in Papatoetoe should feel free to go about their daily business."

If anyone has information that can assist the Operation Sisal team, they can call 0508 422 443.

Anyone who wishes to speak with a Thai speaking officer can call Constable Peter Siriphong on 021 191 0864 and for Chinese members of our community you can contact Justin Zeng on 09 263 2781.

Police have supplied an image of the woman's dolphin tattoo.
