Aucklanders are being urged to be vigilant, as police investigate a string of card skimming incidents in Albany.
Police are aware of at least five cases in the past fortnight where victims had used a standalone ATM in the Albany Village, which was outside a dairy.
Inspection of the ATM revealed a glue-like substance around the card reader.
Police believe the offenders are using a very realistic-looking device over the card-reading slot, to capture information on the card's magnetic strip.
Sergeant Tony Bruce said the victims didn’t notice anything unusual when they went to use the ATM, which was even fitted with the green ‘anti-skimming’ guard.
They only realised their cards had been skimmed once money was taken from their accounts.
