UPDATED 3.00pm: A woman killed on a suburban Auckland street has been described as intelligent, an avid sportswoman and devoted mother.

Jo Pert was attacked on Thursday while out jogging in Remuera, and a 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged with her murder.

Her friend for 25 years, government minister Paula Bennett, broke down while addressing reporters today.

"We can't describe our sadness at this time and are really focused on supporting Harry and Molly. We'd like to thank the police, the emergency services and the family that found Jo."

Ms Bennett said Ms Pert was a fiercely intelligent and driven woman - with a degree in accounting, and another in acupuncture and herbal medicine.

Detectives investigating the killing of an Auckland mother-of-two are asking Remuera residents to hand over their security recordings from the day of the attack.

Police say they want to hear from people in Shore Road who may have private CCTV recordings from Thursday that may have captured either Ms Pert or the alleged offender between 9am and 10:30am.

Officers are stressing that despite a 24-year-old male being in custody and charged with the murder, the police investigation is ongoing.

Police are trying to reconstruct Ms Pert's movements, and hope more information will help the homicide investigation.

A dedicated phone line - 0800 765 842 - and email address - [email protected] - has been set up for any information relating to the investigation.

Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen Ms Pert running along Shore Rd between Bassett Rd/Brighton Rd roundabout and the Orakei Rd roundabout.
