A house in Lower Hutt is under scene guard after an apparent drive-by shooting last night.
Police remain at the scene at the property in Reynolds Street in the suburb of Taita.
A nearby resident has told NZME two men, in what they describe as "a flash car", drove past the house around 11 last night, and fired a single shot from a shotgun.
Nobody was injured.
The resident said the house is a Housing New Zealand state home.
They don't want to be named out of fear of retaliation, but say two adults and seven children live there.
Police are yet to confirm what has happened.
It comes just six months after a gunman walked into another house on the same street and shot the occupant in the stomach.
