A man who stabbed his wife to death on an Albany street and then turned the knife on those who tried to save her, has been jailed for at least 17 years.

Brent Scott had already pleaded guilty in December to the murder of Heidi Welman-Scott and the attempted murder of her daughter Taryn Leigh Welman and her boyfriend Matija Miletic in November last year.

Justice Mary Peters has called the case 'exceptional' in terms of the deliberate way Scott went about planning the cold blooded killing.

Six weeks before hand he booked a flight to South Africa.

He snuck into the house and attacked, before returning his vehicle to a hire firm and heading to the airport - where he was caught.
