UPDATED 5.30pm:Â The man who raped and murdered Auckland woman Blessie Gotingco will be sentenced in August.
He was found guilty at the High Court in Auckland today after a month long trial.
The Crown has indicated it'll seek a sentence of preventive detention on the rape charge.
Detective Senior Sergeant Stan Brown says the police's "feelings, thoughts and support" are with Mrs Gotingco's family as they look ahead to the defendant's appeal that was signalled in court.
"Obviously this is just part of the judicial process and we have some steps to go."
The accused will continue to have name suppression. At the start of the trial he was given it - but his picture was allowed to be printed.
After the jury returned its guilty verdicts, the judge lifted name suppression - but the man is lodging an appeal.
