The Police Association is worried at what it says is a growing trend of drivers ramming patrol cars or deliberately driving at officers.
It says there have already been 9 incidents this year, the latest was in Taupo this week.
Association vice-president Craig Tickelpenny says it's a disturbing number.
"We're just starting to see a bit of a developing trend and it seems like some drivers are just willing to take the risk with total disregard for the safety of others."
Tickelpenny says police have enough pressure on them without adding ramming injuries and written off patrol cars to the list.
He says it shows a reckless disregard for human life and is also taking a toll on the patrol car fleet.
"[There is] less resources for police to use...some of them can be written right off depending on how hard they are hit and what damage is done."
