The Christchurch City Council is seeking feedback on plans to have five metre wide footpaths on one side of Hereford Road for outdoor dining.
The plan also proposes adding two bus stops, on-street cycle lanes and increased spaces for taxis and uber's.
Christchurch Developer Richard Peebles says he is pleased the plan does not include any building of concrete barriers on the cycle lanes.
"It's just going to be a painted road surface, so Hereford Street, which is a main arterial, will feel wider than the other roads which feel to narrow."
Building owner Max Bremner says he supports alfresco dining but it has to be in the right place.
"For Hereford Street, I have no issue, but my questions are is that it may be affected by the easterly wind, and it will be a cold place to sit."
Many business owners who have had to face nearly eight years of disruption hope the plans to upgrade Hereford street will not cause any further headaches for customers accessing their businesses.
