Southern businesses have given their northern counterparts a nudge.
Deloitte's South Island index has continued to outperform the national index in the latest results from the September quarter.
They've played a major role in pushing up capital by 6 percent in the South Island Index in the last quarter.
Partner Scott McClay said there's been some big powers at play from Canterbury.
"If you look at companies like EBOS, massive operations in Australia, but based out of Christchurch - they were our biggest improver in the September quarter. Along with companies like Hartland and Kathmandu - also with focuses wider than just Canterbury."
Mr McClay said the region's proving it's just as much as a hub as Auckland or Wellington.
"There are a number of Canterbury based companies that are really driving the index and what's interesting is that most of them have a national and international focus as well."
Mr McClay said it's not at all a one off.
He said the national index has been topped through the majority of the South Island Index's ten year history and for many quarters in a row now.
He said they're driving the index, with national and international focuses based from the south.
