Cantab homeowners asked to rank insurance companies

By: APNZ | Latest Christchurch News | Friday July 13 2012 19:32

Homeowners in quake-hit Canterbury are being asked to rank insurance companies on which are doing best with rebuilds and repairs.

Volunteer consumer group InsuranceWatch.org.nz is calling for more participants of a Canterbury-wide survey - with another survey to follow in coming months to assess any progress and changes.

An initial survey of coastal hill suburbs showed significant differences in treatment of property owners, depending on which company they were insured with.

InsuranceWatch data shows that, to date, the best progress has been made by Lumley, Tower and AMI-Southern Response.

The worst performers were the IAG group, which includes State, NZI, IAG via banks, and Vero.

The InsuranceWatch.org.nz News page includes a graphic demonstrating the Magnitude of Misery experienced by the clients of various insurance companies.

InsuranceWatch.org.nz has also been organising public meetings with individual insurers to extract as much solid information as possible to help people make progress with their claims.

The next meeting is with AAI and SIS Insurance on August 8 at 7pm in the Samoan Church Hall at Vili Place, Woolston.

The survey can be found at http://InsuranceWatch.org.nz
