Arrests not Students Association's fault

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Christchurch News | Monday October 15 2012 5:38

Christchurch police say the large number of arrests at Canterbury University's end of year celebrations isn't the Students Association's fault.

73 students were arrested on Friday night for breaching the liquor ban, mainly in the Riccarton area.

The students were among hundreds taking part in the University of Canterbury's annual Tea Party and Lincoln University's Garden Party.

Senior Sergeant Peter Laloli says the Students Association was very proactive in keeping the event under control.

He says police met with the association days before and made it very clear of their intentions not to go lightly on liquor ban breaches.

Senior Sergeant Laloli says it seemed to be a minority ruining it for the group, who were largely well behaved.
