Disappointment from a former Team New Zealand head at Auckland Council's America's Cup base decision.
The council has ditched a proposal to push Halsey Wharf 220 metres into the Waitemata Harbour to accommodate the base.

The two remaining options are a dispersed base at Wynyard Point or a clustered base at Wynyard Basin, which the council prefers.
Co-founder and former Team New Zealand chief executive, Alan Sefton told Mike Hosking the decision may be regretted.

"The mayor's got his way and we're going to get the reduced version of the Halsey wharf extension that he favours because it's cheaper and politically more expedient but I'm not sure that it's the correct solution."
A final decision on the America's Cup base will be made just before Christmas.
