An American veteran's affairs officer isn't buying Donald Trump's reasoning for keeping transgender people out of the military.

The President has tweeted overnight he will ban transgender people from serving - due to distraction and huge medical costs.

But, the Transgender American Veterans Association's Denny Meyer said, the costs are minimal.

He told Mike Hosking the current rule brought in by the Obama administration, means you have to have completed your transformation before joining.

"Various budget offices have examined this issue and said it would not cost very much at all. It's a right-wing fantasy."
