A call for egos to be put aside when it comes to the location of the America's Cup bases.

Economic Development Minister David Parker is pressing ahead with a plan to house the syndicates on the old Tank Farm at Wynyard Point.

That's at odds with an agreement between Auckland Council and Team New Zealand to put them around Wynyard Basin.

Former Auckland City Councillor Scott Milne told Kate Hawkesby the debate is part of the process.

"We've come to the point where the egos have to be put aside [and] the pragmatism and the common sense has to rise to the surface."

He said people will be brassed off if this delay causes the spending of extra money.

"We do need to start putting direct voter pressure onto the politicians to say enough is enough, you've had your time of talking, let's get on with the job."
