A conservationist says Auckland needs to do something drastic to stop the spread of Kauri dieback.
Auckland councillors will vote today on the best way to control the disease, which has been running rampant in the Waitakere Ranges.
They're expected to support stronger measures to fight dieback, instead of closing the large regional park.
But Waitakere Ranges Protection Society president John Edgar told Rachel Smalley the status quo simply won't work.
"Everything that we've done to date on Kauri dieback and I mean we because you know this is a community and a council thing, hasn't been effective."
