The Labour Party have shot up the polls, giving them their highest result in over 10 years.

The latest 1News Colmar Brunton poll shows Labour at 43 percent, with National behind on 41 - a 3 percent drop in the same poll.

This is a 6 point increase for Labour since the last poll two weeks over, and National's lowest result since 2005.

New Zealand First is down two points to 8 percent, and the Greens have clawed back to make the 5 percent threshold which they would need to make it back into Parliament.

The result means Winston Peters remains the potential 'kingmaker' - both Labour and National would need the support of New Zealand First to govern.

Meanwhile, in the preferred Prime Minister poll, Labour Leader Jacinda Ardern is ahead in that too. Ms Ardern is on 34 percent, up four points on the last poll.

However, National leader Bill English, is just one point behind on 33 percent.

The first Leaders' Debate between Bill English and Jacinda Ardern will be broadcast live tonight on TVNZ 1 with a simulcast on Newstalk ZB and online on iHeartRadio.
