Dozens of events are planned over the long weekend, including official exhibitions and performances at Queen's Wharf.
Roger Beaumont of the event sponsor ASB says Shed 10 and the waterfront will be worth checking out.
"It'll be a really special environment through Shed 10, which tells the story of Auckland.
"There's also all sorts of other exhibitions."
Beaumont says the bank wants to recognise its shared history with the city.
"John Logan Campbell, who's considered the father of Auckland, was also the founder of ASB and I think we've played a really key role in Auckland's history."
Waitemata Local Board's Vernon Tava says the city should be proud of how far it's become.
He says Auckland's European settlement has gone from a collection of calico tents to a city of international significance.
The Auckland waterfront will be the focal point for this weekend's official celebrations.
