Irish authorities are urging people to stay indoors, as tropical storm Ophelia continues to batter the country.

Three people have been killed and hundreds are without power, after the strongest hurricane to ever reach the country.

Sky's David Blevins said the eye of the storm has passed, but the winds haven't let up.

"When you look at the harbour, waves are still crashing here in Baltimore against that Harbour. A wall has caved in simple through the force of the waves."

UK correspondent Rod Liddle told Mike Hosking the storm's now reached the UK.

He said it's pushing smoke from the Portuguese fires and dust form the Sahara over the skies of London.

"It's now hammering away at Northern Ireland. In the North eat and North West of England a weird, sinister dark red sun has set."
