A dire situation in Myanmar with thousands of traumatised families fleeing violence

400 thousand Rohinyga people have escaped a bloody military campaign against the ethnic group to seek refuge in Bangladesh.

Kiwi operations director at World Vision Bangladesh, Jared Berends, said refugees are injured and have walked for days to find safety.

Berends said they're short on resources to meet people's basic needs and are desperate for food, water and health care.

"The people are very scared, many of them are injured and many of them have walked for two or three days, and half of those 400 thousand people are children."

He told Mike Hosking refugees are terrified but it's the children who are most vulnerable.

"These are children who are traumatised, these are children who are hungry, who need an education - they are not in a good state."
