Most parents want their kids to be taught more social and life skills at school.
Research by Monash University and ASG Education Programmes has found 66 percent of parents want teachers to play a greater role in children's development.
ASG chief executive John Velegrinis said parents have wide-ranging requests.
"Something as fundamental as social and emotional skills - resilience, socialisation.Â
"But also things like cooking, cleaning and hygiene, communication skills."
He said 54 percent of parents also want teachers to do more to protect their children from cyber predators.
"Tablets and computers and so forth are being used quite extensively now at schools and parents are concerned their kids are protected from elements of the dark web."
Nearly 500 parents in New Zealand took part in the research.
