Male primary school teachers could soon be a thing of the past.
An Australian study says it is unlikely there will be any male teachers there within 50 years.
It goes on to say male teacher numbers are lower here, compared to the Tasman.
PPTA president Jack Boyle told Mike Hosking quality teachers are important, regardless of gender.
"You want your teacher workforce to largely reflect the community and the people who are going to be in the classrooms. So I would be very disappointed if there weren't males and females teaching our young people."
