Jacinda Ardern said the Government needs more time to consider the best option for the next America's Cup base.
Auckland Council has voted in favour of the Wynyard Basin option, which would see extensions to Halsey Wharf, Hobson Wharf and Wynyard Wharf.
But the Government wants to look more closely at the Wynyard Point option, which would involve moving hazardous materials in liquid storage tanks, to free up room for construction.
It's estimated the tanks could cost $112 million to move
But the Prime Minister told Mike Hosking that figure might be too high.
"We just want to take a closer look at that because we want the best value for the taxpayer, the best long term project."
