The Prime Minister admits National's immigration crack-down needs 'tweaking'.
But Bill English says the Government's getting feedback on proposed changes to the skilled migrant visa.
It would require migrant workers in skilled jobs to earn a minimum of around $49,000 and require them to leave for a year, after three years.
Mr English told Mike Hosking National is looking to changing parameters in the coming weeks, as it receives major push back from the hospitality and horticulture sectors.
"Some of those perimeters we've had feedback that they're too tight," he said.
"We're trying to get the balance right - it's always about a bit of tweaking and working with industry."
