Some clear winners and losers from the new Government's approach to the regions.

Bay of Plenty has skyrocketed from 12th to 3rd place, due to bumper kiwifruit season and housing growth.

The summer drought and pending oil ban has pushed Taranaki down to last place in ASB's latest economic scorecard of the country's 16 regions.

Auckland is also lagging behind the regions when it comes to growth prospects and business confidence.

The region is 10th out of 16 regions in ASB's latest regional economic scorecard, up three places from 13th three months ago.

But an Auckland Business Chamber survey shows 44-percent of Auckland businesses expect the economy to deteriorate.

JMI Wealth director Andrew Kelleher old Mike Hosking the only really good news for our biggest city is the acceleration of residential building consents.

"The economic urban powerhouse is middle of the road and if we take some cognizance of those survey results we're having a bit of a confidence slump."

Kelleher says Northland has been the real winner from the change of Government.

"Four-point-six percent employment growth, 5.2 percent in retail sales, 10.3 percent house price growth and a 19 percent growth in construction."
