New Zealand has ruffled the feather of China over its activity in the South China sea.
China has taken exception to the Strategic Defence Policy Statement 2018 which was released on Friday by Defence Minister Ron Mark.
It wants New Zealand to correct what it calls "wrong words and deeds" but Winston Peters is having none of it.
NZME head of business Fran O'Sullivan told Chris Lynch the position taken by Ron Marks on China shows the need for New Zealand to make reasonably strong statements about what's happening with China.
"That was forthright statement. It has had the predictable response out of China but so far Winston Peters and Ron Mark are holding their ground, and they should."
